Boxing Day Shopping Spree...

Today we went to Meadowhall Shopping Centre in Sheffield for boxing day. We went there early as it took us one hour drive to get there. There are construction work on the M1 highway which require us to drive 50 mph from Junction 25 to Junction 31. As we reached Meadowhall, we went straight to River Island and bought me a bag. Then Atie went to Debenham and bought herself a new stir fry wok. At noon, the crowd are getting busier and we decided to go to the nearby Mosque and preformed our prayers. Then we head to Nando's for lunch. After lunch, we then realize that there is a halal Subway's next to Nando's. We bought some sandwich for dinner.

Got Our Car Back...

After three weeks in the garage due to the valve failure, we finally got our car back. It was a big job as the mechanics need to open up the engine bay and took it to the Mercedes dealer to pinpoint which valve was stuck and have to order the new parts from them as well. After refitting the engine, they again have to plug in the car to the Mercedes computer software to make sure everything was fine again. The drive was totally different from when we first bought it. We went to Nottingham today as Atie had to hand in her Managing Information and Knowledge assignment...

Nikon D3000 DSLR...

Today, in the spirit of Christmas, Atie bought me a Nikon D3000 Digital SLR as my early Christmas present. We were just wondering around Nottingham and went into Jessops and took a look at the camera there. It was a midrange digital SLR and got best reviews form the Gadget Show. Nikon offers £30 cashback and with that we also purchased an 8 Gb SanDisk Ultra memory card, camera bag, lens cover as well as the screen protector. They also offer 6 months payment plan with 0% interest. Still finding my way with all of the camera settings (shutter speed, exposure and so on). Lucky for me this camera comes with an auto function setting, just choose, point and shoot. Come on guys, let's go to Peak District and take some pictures...

I’ve received my UK driving licence via post today. After spending around £390, now I feel no more fear driving around anywhere. We could use our Malaysian driving license, but it is only valid for one year. Come on lets go to Birmingham...

Today, I've attended my second year progress review viva. As part of the review process, I was asked to prepare a summary of my year's work which includes comprehensive thesis plan as well as what ever experimental results that I manage to achieve for the past year.

I was reviewed by Dr. Helmut Bez which was very supportive and had given new insights regarding my research.

Two years gone, one more to go...

Car For Sale:- Vauxhall Vectra 5 Door Estate...

I am selling my Vauxhall Vectra 5 Door Estate, 2.0L, 16 V, 138,551 miles, Gold, “R” reg, automatic, petrol and central locking.

It unfortunately requires a head gasket or water pump. Other than that it drives beautifully, no other faults! I drive this vehicle to work and back with no bother, but I don’t want to take it on longer runs in case it overheats and recommend the buyer to fix head gasket. It’s a car well worth doing with pretty low mileage for the year - these cars in sale condition can fetch in the region of £600 - £1000. Asking for £350 o.n.o.

Here’s the symptoms as best as I can describe.
The car heats to midway after around 5-10 miles, then creeps up to high temp,
There’s no oil in the water or water in the oil,
I’ve been told the car is most likely pumping air into the water system through the head gasket or it possibly could be the water pump.
It’s not an economical repair for me to do which is the reason for sale.

Tax till 31 May 2010.
No MOT.

Today, we've put down another deposit for Papa's car. We went to Leicester to view and test drive this car.

Today, we had put down deposit for purchasing this car. The salesman also includes 6 months road tax as well as full service. It’s a 2003 C200K Mercedes Benz coupe, 47000 miles, 2 previous owners with panorama sun roof. We took it for a test drive around L'boro, and it was smooth as silk. This Wednesday, InshaAllah, we will able to take this car home...

Turn Back Time...

Some say we can't turn back time, but here, we had to turn our watch back one hour as British Summer Time ends at 2 am today. I feel sorry for the owners of clock shop. But the good thing is if you puasa, Sahur at 5 am and Maghrib is at 4.50 pm.

I've attended a 2 day seminar organised by Staff Development, Loughborough University at Beaumanor Hall Conference Centre. We were given many tools that we can apply in problem solving either in our studies or day - to - day problems. It shows us that there are many ways of dealing with problem if we view the problem from a different angle. The most interesting tool for me is the DRC. Dreamer, Realistic and Critic. We dream of the ultimate goal, pass it to the realist to make it work then passes it to critic to make the idea water tight...

Today we went and watch a movie at the Cope Auditorium, Loughborough University. This movie was brought by the L'boro Uni's Film Society. The ticket cost £2.50 each compare to Odeon's £9.97 per person. It was not bad, as it offers Dolby Surround and 30 ft screen...

Today we went to the Hari Raya celebration ceremony organised by MML at Quorn Village Hall. We were given the task of preparing Nasi Beriyani, while others prepare other dishes. It's nice to get together and exchange stories...

National Space Centre, Leicester....

As usual, Faiz will always want to go to the National Space Centre in Leicester. As we had bought the annual pass, we only had to purchase ticket for Muhammad and additional £3 for the theater. As Faiz, Muhammad, Hafiz & Adik went in, Papa & Mama went to the local Mercedes dealer to look for a car. The sales person promised to find one for us. Then we head back to the space centre to pick them up...

Nottingham Sight Seeing...

As Atie got some free time today, Papa & Mama decided to go to Nottingham for sight seeing. They originally only want to go to Victoria Shopping Centre, but ending up at Castle Meadow Retail Park and bought Puteri a new pushchair...

Cantik tarikh Hari Raya tahun ni, 20092009. Jatuh pula hari Ahad, cuti hujung minggu. Kalau biasa pagi - pagi ke carboot, hari ni pergi ke Victory Hall, Loughborough University, dimana sembahyang sunat aidilfitri diadakan.
